An oval-shaped metal and enamel device 1 inch (2.54 cm) high by 27/32 inch (2.14 cm) wide, consisting of a black oval bearing a gold finial spearhead upright with three gold bands on the shaft issuing from the base of narrow gold border, surrounded by a black designation band inscribed "SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND" arched at the bottom and "UNITED STATES" arched at the top divided by four stars, two on the left and two on the right in base metal. The circumference edged with a rope border of base metal.
